Cardiovascular Health at Heart of WMCHealth’s Mission
A Message from Michael D. Israel
In the 1960s, Grasslands Hospital launched the Hudson Valley’s first open-heart surgery program.
Today, its successor, Westchester Medical Center, flagship of the 10-hospital Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) in Valhalla, has performed more than 300 heart transplants. Such life-saving procedures are just one facet of comprehensive services that have established WMCHealth as a clear leader in cardiovascular diagnosis, treatment and research. All play an increasingly vital role in the health of the Hudson Valley.
This commitment led to the 2015 creation of the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute, the umbrella for cutting-edge cardiovascular care and technology at WMCHealth hospitals and practices in communities where our patients live and work, spanning 6,200 miles of the Hudson Valley and beyond. Recent geographic expansions include the establishment of practices
in Mamaroneck and New Paltz. At HealthAlliance in Kingston, significant investment is funding the introduction of interventional cardiovascular services and an array of new programs, part of an expansion and enhancement of the Mary’s Avenue Campus.
WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute patients have access to the nation’s best physicians and researchers in cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiovascular services, and receive compassionate care from highly skilled, experienced nurses and allied health professionals. Specialists collaborate every day to save lives with the most contemporary approaches to cardiovascular care.
WMCHealth continues to significantly invest in cardiovascular care. In 2019, WMCHealth opened its $230-million, 260,000-square-foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion adjacent to Westchester Medical Center’s main tower. This state-of-the-art facility provides outpatients with a full spectrum of services. New technologies enhance seamless communication among healthcare providers, patients and families. Other benefits include patient-controlled ambient experiences, private dressing rooms and spacious common areas.
The debut of the Ambulatory Care Pavilion follows other cutting-edge upgrades at Westchester Medical Center, including the addition of a 1,000-square-foot hybrid operating room, new electrophysiology labs, renovated labs for non-invasive cardiology and new inpatient care units. Similarly significant innovation, expansion and upgrades are taking place across our network, representing WMCHealth’s commitment to maximize its expertise and deliver leading-edge, comforting cardiovascular care to every patient, close to home.
In addition, WMCHealth’s affiliation with Philips provides the most current medical technologies and imaging systems, enabling quicker, more accurate diagnoses and treatments. A long-term agreement with academic affiliate New York Medical College ensures access to advanced clinical research and new medical breakthroughs for years to come.
Thank you for placing your trust in the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute and WMCHealth. By building trust and promoting well-being, we are Advancing Care. Here.
