A Part of Our Revolutionary, Life-Saving eHealth Program
The WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute’s TeleCardiology Program, launched in 2017, is an important time-saving service digitally connecting highly skilled and experienced subspecialists at separate WMCHealth locations. This enhances care models, patient outcomes and experiences.
TeleCardiology is a facet of WMCHealth’s nationally renowned eHealth Program, the Hudson Valley’s only telemedicine program. eHealth provides a vast continuum of multispecialty inpatient and outpatient services in real time – and is achieving dramatic results.
TeleICU and TeleCardiology Programs
The TeleICU Program is consistently named one of the nation’s top three such programs, among 300 nationwide by the Philips Quality Indicators Report. Since the program’s launch in January 2016, hundreds of lives have been saved.
The TeleCardiology Program was created in 2017. From desktop computers or mobile devices, cardiologists and subspecialists in fields such as nuclear cardiology, cardiac MRI, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, heart failure, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and critical-care cardiology collaborate. During these peer-to-peer consultations, diagnostic tests are reviewed and the most optimal treatment plan is evaluated, instantly leveraging the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute’s expertise and experience across the Hudson Valley.
A 5,000-Square-Foot eHealth Center Hub
The 5,000-square-foot eHealth Center hub, at flagship Westchester Medical Center, connects highly skilled clinicians around the clock every day with colleagues and patients across WMCHealth; increases access to specialists; and efficiently delivers the right care at the right time. Twenty healthcare professionals, via tablets and specially designed HIPAA-compliant encrypted software, collaborate with dedicated bedside physicians and nurses via live video to enhance monitoring, diagnostics, treatment and communication.
This eHealth Program is driven by a commitment to timely, stellar medical care being even more conveniently accessible for patients in the communities where they live. In addition, it enhances patient and family trust and understanding of treatment, substantially important factors during a complex health situation.
In addition, the eHealth Program also enables personnel in Wi-Fi-equipped ICU ambulances, in transit with critically ill and injured patients, to consult with clinical specialists at Westchester Medical Center and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. These video consultations aid transport crews and simultaneously enable receiving teams to prepare for and maximize immediate treatment and comfort considerations.
The eHealth Program also offers TelePsychiatry, TeleStroke/TeleNeurology and TeleDermatology services. The newest programs include eNeonatology, the first in New York State, and eSitter, which helps prevent falls by geriatric patients.
Soon, WMCHealth will launch two new programs to expand its life-saving impact:
The TeleHeart Transplant Program, in which patients from rural areas digitally connect for follow-up services at WMCHealth’s HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston or MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, with Westchester Medical Center-based transplant specialists. This next frontier of digital healthcare will improve lives and broaden access to care.
The TeleCardiology Consultation Program will open its expertise to patients nationwide by providing digital consultations and second opinions via live video and audio. WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute cardiologists will review clinical information and imaging studies, if appropriate, as part of this fee-based, timed service designed to empower personal healthcare decision-making. The TeleCardiology Consultation Program will substantially widen the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute’s geography, build a new cohort of patients and offer patients quality, trusted information.
