Project Fact Sheet: Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) and HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Announce Plans to Transform Healthcare in Ulster County

Project Fact Sheet

The Westchester Medical Center Health Network and HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley (HealthAlliance), a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), announced plans for a five-year, $133.6 million project that includes a 110,000 square-foot expansion - highlighted by a new, four-story tower addition - and 70,000 square-foot renovation of the HealthAlliance Hospital on Mary’s Avenue, as well as a medical village hub at HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus. The project is expected to transform the delivery of healthcare in Ulster County.

HealthAlliance Hospital: Mary’s Avenue Campus project details include:

New tower additions:

*110,000 square feet of additional space. Total hospital square footage after project completion: 437,000.

*After project completion, 141 of total 201 beds on Mary’s Avenue will be private.

*New emergency center:

  • Efficient design will provide an unprecedented level of readiness for healthcare emergencies.
  • Emergency center immediately adjacent to new medical imaging center
  • New Fast Track (Hyper Track) program for patients with minor illnesses or injuries
  • 24,800 square feet (14,690 square feet at existing Broadway Campus ED)
  • 32 treatment bays
  • Four behavioral health treatment rooms
  • 10 new clinical observation beds (nonexistent on Broadway Campus ED)
  • New, convenient waiting lounge (nonexistent on Broadway Campus ED)

*Two medical-surgical floors: 52 private rooms, 26 on each floor

*New intensive care unit:

  • 11,500 square feet, more than three times the existing Mary’s Avenue ICUs
  • 10 ICU beds and five step-down beds, providing an intermediate level of care between the ICU and the general medical-surgical floors

*New endoscopy center

  • Three procedure rooms with the latest in state-of-the-art equipment allow board-certified gastroenterologists and pulmonologists to perform all endoscopic procedures in the safest and most technologically advanced setting possible.

Upgrades to existing hospital:

*New main entrance and lobby

  • Registration
  • Admissions/cashier
  • Gift shop
  • Pre-surgical testing area
  • Imaging Suite Registration/Check-in /Waiting
  • New elevator bank will allow quick access to all parts of the building

*New family birth place

  • 14,000 square feet (10,000 square feet currently on Broadway Campus)
  • Three labor, delivery and recovery rooms; Three postpartum rooms; One antepartum, or prenatal, room for women needing medical attention in the final three to four months of pregnancy; and one caesarean section operating room
  • Every service related to delivering and caring for a baby will be in the same suite, on the same floor

*New same-day surgery suite

  • 9,800 square feet
  • 26 bays

New medical imaging center

  • Imaging center will have the most advanced equipment from health technology leader and WMCHealth strategic partner, Philips, to provide radiologists with the highest quality diagnostic and treatment imaging services in a caring, safe and efficient environment.

*New hospital pharmacy
