Patient Rights and Responsibilities

Take an Active Role in Your Healthcare To ensure the best care possible, Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) patients must take an active and responsible role in their healthcare. By partnering with your healthcare team, you will be better equipped to make informed decisions about your treatment needs and options.

Plan Ahead

Whenever possible, schedule tests, optional treatments, etc., in advance and in cooperation with your physician.

Respect Staff Members

Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth)'s highly trained staff is dedicated to making your stay the best it can be. A team of professionals is working around the clock to provide you with the highest quality care possible and put you on the road to recovery.

Fully Disclose Necessary Information about Yourself

For your safety and welfare, tell your physician and assigned nurse everything you can about your condition, including all symptoms you are experiencing, all previous ailments, all medications you are taking, including herbal supplements and over-the-counter medications, and any allergies you may have. This information will become part of your confidential medical record.

Follow Instructions

Take all your medications as prescribed and carefully follow diet and exercise plans. If you must leave your room or the nearby vicinity, be sure to ask the nurse first.

Report Any Changes

It is important that you let your physician or the nursing staff know immediately about changes in your symptoms or general condition, or about problems with your medication.

Ask Questions

A physician or nurse may not realize that you are having trouble understanding or following instructions. They may not know if you are confused, uncertain or need more information about your care. Always try to explain your problem immediately and to ask any questions you have.

Your Privacy Rights

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law created to protect patient health information. At  Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), we are dedicated to protecting the privacy of your protected health information. Our Notice of Privacy Practices explains how your medical information may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information.
