Balance Center Overview

Do you suffer from dizziness or balance issues? We have treatment solutions. The Balance Center at Westchester Medical Center offers comprehensive evaluation and intervention for those experiencing dizziness, vertigo and chronic balance problems.

Surprisingly common, dizziness and balance problems can affect almost anyone and can be the result of a number of issues, including inner-ear problems, head injuries, or a variety of seemingly unrelated medical conditions. In some cases, these symptoms can be debilitating and result in severe disabilities and a significant decrease in quality-of-life.

What to expect from vestibular and balance rehabilitation and therapy

Referrals and Appointments

The Balance Center is an open-referral center and accepts physician referrals for any combination of diagnostic testing or vestibular and balance therapy. Please be sure to determine if your insurance provider requires that you have a doctor's referral prior to scheduling an appointment.

Meet The Westchester Medical Center Balance Center Team

Katrina

Katrina R. Stidham, MD
Chief of Neurotology
Director, Balance Center and Cochlear Implant Program
Westchester Medical Center

Dr. Stidham is a fellowship-trained neurotologist and skull base surgeon practicing the full scope of otology and neurotology. She also is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology and Neurosurgery at New York Medical College, the academic affiliate of Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Stidham received her medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine and completed her surgical residency in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery at Stanford. She completed her neurotology/skull base fellowship at the California Ear Institute at Stanford. Prior to joining the Westchester Medical Center team, she practiced in California for eight years as the medical director of the Cochlear Implant Program at Children’s Hospital Oakland.

Dr. Stidham's scope of practice includes care for children and adult patients with ear and skull base disorders. She has expertise in diagnosis and management of hearing loss, acute and chronic ear disease, dizziness, balance problems, lateral skull base tumors and facial nerve disorders. She has special interests in cochlear implants, congenital hearing loss, pediatric otology, cholesteatomas, vestibular schwannomas, Meniere's disease (inner ear disease), dizziness and otosclerosis.

 
 

Incoronata Lileika, MA, CCC-A, FAAA
Vestibular Audiologist

Nada Lileika received her master's degree with distinction in Audiology in 1998 from Hofstra University. She holds a certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association and is a fellow in the American Academy of Audiology. She is committed to maintaining rigorous continuing education credits in order to remain current in many aspects of audiology, particularly vestibular assessments and disorders. She is genuinely interested in diagnosing vestibular disorders to help patients receive a proper diagnosis, care and improve their quality of life.

 

Sheetal Thayil, PT, MSPT
Senior Physical Therapist
Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy

Sheetal Thayil is a physical therapist who has practiced as a therapist for over a decade. She completed her Physical Therapy degree from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston in 2011. Since then she has received her board certification as a neurological clinical specialist from the American Physical Therapy Association, and has become a clinical stroke rehabilitation specialist and certified clinical vestibular therapist. Throughout her career, she has worked with adults with a variety neurological injuries with focus on individuals with dizziness and balance disorders. During her free time, she can be found globetrotting with her family, hiking or running a 10K or marathon! 

 

Sara Marsico, PT, DPT
Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy

Sara Marsico received her Bachelor of Science from University of Connecticut and went on to get her doctorate in physical therapy from New York Medical College. Her interest of vestibular pathology started while she was in her graduate program. She worked on a project looking at vestibular function in children with autism. Since then, she has continued to pursue her interest in both vestibular rehabilitation and orthopaedics. She has taken multiple postgraduate courses on vestibular rehabilitation, concussion and balance therapy. She also successfully completed the exam to become a board certified orthopaedic specialist. When Sara is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys cooking and being outside and tries to stay active in her everyday life. 

 
 

Alison Rothman, PT, DPT
Senior Physical Therapist

Alison Rothman received her Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University and Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York Medical College. She spent the first three years of her career at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in New Jersey treating patients with a wide variety of neurological and vestibular diagnoses. While at JFK-JRI, she achieved the title of Certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist and became certified in LSVT-BIG to treat patients with Parkinson’s Disease. Alison was excited to move back to her hometown in Westchester County and join the team at the Balance Center, where she will further specialize in giving evidence-based care to people experiencing vestibular dysfunction. When she is not working, you can catch Alison and her husband at a New York Giants or New York Rangers game as season ticket holders.
